Working at Niginan
At NiGiNan we grow together. We strive to provide staff with opportunities to expand their knowledge and skillset within the organization.
NiGiNan is dedicated to setting up a solid on-boarding and technical training plan for staff to learn basics and safety essentials, helping them do their job to the best of their ability. Front-line staff are provided with training such as Red Cross First Aid, Psychological First Aid, and Verbal Crisis Intervention Training. Training is delivered both by dedicated NiGiNan staff as well as through organizations like the Crisis Prevention Institute and MINT Pharmacy.
NiGiNan staff also deliver training that has been developed in-house from an Indigenous perspective. This includes Suicide Intervention Training, Wahkohtowin De-escalation Training, Medicine Wheel Training, and a series on overcoming the effects of trauma titled “Finding My Way”. This training helps staff better understand Indigenous ancestry, generational trauma, cultural practices and teachings.
At NiGiNan we lead with love. In the same way that we strive to meet residents’ individual needs, staff are offered a wide range of supports to help them in their professional and personal lives. In addition to a standard suite of supports such as extended health benefits and in-house training, staff are supported by NiGiNan’s Cultural Services Team. Staff can go to members of the team for advice and direction for their daily tasks and are encouraged to take part in Ceremony and are offered cultural teachings. It is a common occurrence to be offered a smudge throughout the course of your work day and the smell of sage often permeates the air in the offices.
